POESY FOR LAVENDERBLUE under the light of the moon
Shall I compare thee to a Szwagier Sonnet ?
Thou art more temperamental and more joyous.
The darling winds of Duck ?
The damning sins of Quack?
Nay thou art more mischief-like than that.
I shall send you chocs
In a forever-new box
Within sight of a silvery spoon.
I fear my taste in poetry tends to the banal - McGonagall and suchlike. Immortal lines lodged in the memory are those penned by Alfred Austin - surely the most ludicrous of Poets Laureate - "On the Illness of the Prince of Wales" [Bertie Tum-tum, Vicky's son - not Charlie Tampon]:

ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, the eponymous heroine is glowing like a sixteen year old and the ShyZulu is bound to be fighting her off before his return to his homeland.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that if someone were to compare me to a sonnet written by me, I'd have to think very carefully about whether to say "thank you" or something a little more... pithy.
