Marmite is said to be a sure-fire repellent for mosquitoes and other blood-sucking insects. In the Burrow, we regularly smear ourselves all over with it [to the fury of our housekeeper, Mrs Malaprop, who has to wash the sheets.....]

  5. More Marmite then. Get behind me Robber Barons. A sure-fire repellent for Thatcher-Blair termites.

Guinness? Gawdy Broon suggests a high tax on it due to the emissions. A cash cow no more no less.

  6. It came to my notice during that UK trip that decent food is hard to find so .........
On return home I made up a delicious yellow pea soup and in it I put :-
    mint
    carrots
    meat
    AND
    MARMITE WITH GUINNESS.

I should have a spot on Big Brother?

Apropos of nothing, did you ever hear the story about the member of a certain distinguished brewing family who was expelled from his public school for displaying in his study one of the family firm's posters which read: "You don't know what life is until you've had a Guinness".

The authorities took the view that you either treated naughty boy/boy behaviour as a serious matter, or ignored it, but you did NOT joke about it!

Possibly true, but certainly ben trovato.
