What can be said when a daughter gets paid to perform on stage in a theatre production? What can be said when this ole Zola attended with both pride and prejudice mixed with Hans Christian Andersen. What can be said? What happens when our sprogs show us the way? What happens when worlds are turned upside down?
What happens when we compare our loved ones to the buds of May when those darling buds of May sing in June-times? What happens?
BTW : Southwold is one of the places soon to be visited on the UK tour. Girls school near by and Adnams Ale too.

You may take my finger prints and my DNA.
You may take my e-mail address too.
But will you get me where you want me?
Will you get just what you want?
Sorri
I read Kafka
Once
But now I am OK
But still you hound me.
Alas the exams are coming for citizenship. After years of slow-moving sillibuss travels the exams are coming. The song " Burma Days Are Here Again" springs to mind and this reminds me of one of those questions. The exam begins.
What would be the questions for a European Citizenship Diploma examination?
Here is a starter ( giving but two of a twenty question Grand Exhibition Sillibus)
1) What did you understand by the book "Burmese Days"?
2) Who has really benefited from the "European Union" legislation(s)?

Due to the eternal return(s) and the curses of my class I was writing things for money. This Zapp was Yuked and ducked again . The only good thing about it all was the uni-lot did damned good work and the administration must think again. No there was another little goodie too. Some complaints came to a newspaper saying that my work was not objective. Oh yes and I get paid.
A few things got edited out from my polite texts for public consumption however. One was the : "the students need to be given time to study critical alternatives".
Another was ( concerning the G8 and Bush-Bliar performance as of Thursday - to be printed on Friday) was this : " The "Decline and Fall", as witnessed by the likes of Evelyn Waugh, related to this G8 fate - a suicide gate to Orwellian heaven - was all to do with poor old Pennyfeather who went "WITHOUT TROUSERS" and got caught. And when our Pennyfeather became a teacher he looked at his room at the college where there was : " Over the chimneypiece a green baize notice-board covered with lists..."

Three suspicious individuals, dressed in Edwardian costume, are being hunted down right now by Italian police. One police official said that : " these three people seemed to be a little foreign and they were seen to be dancing upon the grave of Percy Bysshe Shelly. This was after a boating trip. There was also a strong wine smell everywhere".
But we are told that this may not become a diplomatic incident. Time will tell.
It is time to give the protesters, the bloggers and the social movement groups more and more intellectual and public support. As the USA-UK ( in that pecking order) continues with hegemony ways, using all kinds of propaganda to constrain alternative voices, then it is time for all active citizens to make their voice loud and clear. Then more and more normally weak-willed and career minded politicians may feel the need to listen. From this the hawks might listen or be forced out. Of course this is a romantic notion but like all romantic notions it has a possibility.
In an age and a culture of "me" as "can you see the real me?" WE ALL can, without irony sing out loud the words from a popular song thus :-
" .... No short-haired yellow-bellied son of tricky dicky is gonna mother soft-soap me"
Could do worse, could do worse......

The next week will be a big week for Finland. Football is more important than Nokia. Nokia Land has always been a piece of propaganda. At least Finnish footballers do play for Finland !
I like football because folk can play the game with next to nothing. Just a few people and one ball. That is all it needs. I like that. Hope Finland does well. Hope they qualify for their first ever European tour for the cup.
I am too old to help them and I guess they do not need my help anyway. The last time I played in Finland was with a small local team ( who later reached the top league) and I got sent off!!! Jesus. I was only invited to play and not even on the books. But I did help them to learn. How can a small defender "de-stablise" a big attacker? If you need to ask this question you cannot afford me.

Norway seems to be labelled right now as the most peaceful country. Finland is placed in the top 10. The UK way down as the USA somewhere unmentionable. But this is now time to repeat at least one statistic from the "goodly Finland".
About three out of every ten women get beaten to shit by Finnish men. Peaceful?
Who wants to play ice-hockey next?
Aki Kaurismäki the Finnish film-maker has turned 50 years of age. It is a kind of blessing for him he says. He can now forget the bullshit and concentrate on a reasonable death. But there is more. He seems, today, to find a maturity emerging which will get political before it eats his heart out. He seems on the road to re-write Kafka although any happy ending is certainly not on those cards. Anyway the Finnish government can consider what he has said recently to a Helsinki newspaper : " There has never been a more pathetic government running a worse country than we've got now. "
Bloody hell that could have been Winsten Churchill ranting on about "never has there been a more ....." ( I leave you to link Churchill and Finland just for the fun of it).
I have been trying to get information concerning both direct and indirect costs of the latest Tony Blair world trip. Is there any tax payer in the UK that knows or can help?
By The Way : many might feel that Blair should remain in North Africa for a long period of contemplation in the deserts of his mind and ethical codes but this is not what I am after right now. How much did his latest trip cost?

The recent waves of protest, especially in places like Poland, have found something of a solidarity in the EU and the USA. Our "Tinky Winky" is not really gay at all but a damned menace to society. This purple tellytabby has provided, at long last, a research project for psychologists that really suits those kinds of talented lost souls. This is a worthy link. It was about time we found sensible work for psychologists.
Message to psychologists : You deserved it.

As holiday fever all too often becomes a misadventure the lessons are there to be learnt from the demise of Lord Anthony ( for objective reporting on this see best-selling rag of the UK, News of the Screws) who played one too many a game with the providers from the service sector.
As there are aspidistra types frequenting this site I feel a public duty to make a call for caution when frolicking on the Continent. I am even considering make a website to campaign for health warning labels on continental travel documents.
It seems that one can never be too careful nowadays.

It seems to be that the UK ( as in yuk) celebrates a Bank Holiday or so I am told. Is the bank holiday a "time" for justifying bankers ( with a B not a W) as they take secure anti-risk-time through the misfortunes of those "others"?
Is this bank holiday time a time when the money remains in circulation and for the profitable future markets to continue being on holiday vis-a-vis "THE REST".
Since when has a banker ever been away from a holiday I ask.
However I hope this holiday period is enjoyable for all. Holiday time is a time to spend and to mend the fragile-self is it not? Holiday time is a time to consume happiness itself is it not.
But. But sometimes a holiday is just what we all need. A wake-up time? Ahdunno....

Came up against a page of a book yesterday. In the margins was a comment in ".."s and written there to remind me to check this out so that my memory could be verified. The quote in the margins was :-
" Religion never has you faltering
In the belief that you not they need altering "
Now I cannot find where I got that quote from damit !
But I still like it.

After a period of bone-idleness and pure depravity this Zola surfed the new sites on the blogosphere and found two rogues getting rigged up for the fray. Two life-long burners illuminate what is mostly a very grey and conservative medium.
Yes the Merkin and Trousers have agreed to be public scapegoats for all our troubles.
When I get even more active I will put them on me list of rogues ( which needs updating anyway so I'm told).
Serious fun? Indeed always that which the conservatives dislike and the utilitarians cannot stand. Roll over Jeremy Bentham, listen to that Trousers and Merk .....
No doubt in my mind. The easier something is to in$ure the more the absurdity-value emcompasses the transaction.
Related to this if something can be in$ured it is not really necessary for the good life.
When something is insured then the real life-game is lost.
In$ure my life anyone?

Recently our resident senior and historic scribe, Anticant, has claimed that the lousy state of today can be traced back many years. If not to the failed elitism of Reith then at least to the pessimism of a W.B.Yeats which is the failure of a "Second Coming" in the 20th century. Indeed the sperm count is rather low today anyway so who cares, in fact. But Anticant has a good point. Excitement, for example, today is a "Happy Consciousness" at best ( devoid of real excitement that always includes disaster areas and failures) or, at worst, a consumer consuming well insured and standardised fun. If it was the 1970s that really showed this move to a generation that had not even begun to live it was the damned Americanised 1950s of Harold Mcmillan and his "never had it so good" copy of the USA standard of excellence that gave birth to this McDonaldised world of yuk.
Forget the political economy or even the BBC priests of rightousness. Such evidence is banal. Forget the insipid inspirations from public schools and Oxbridge in their rally against Fordism and scientific management. As any social historian worth her salt knows it is the "things that really matter and the things that mean" which are evidence. With this reality check in mind let me "inkspot" the situation by using real evidence of the coming of a generation that has never really lived.
We look to crisps. In fact "SMITHS CRISPS". There was a time when those crisps in the packets were an adventure. The packet was often sealed so the crisps remained crisp and dry. But there were many times when that packet was not quite sealed well enough and the crisps were rather damp and soggy even. To select a packet of Smiths Crisps was an adventure. But there was more. Inside every packet was a small blue bag filled with salt. Those that wanted to salt their crisps would take this small blue bag and open it and then sprinkle the salt to taste. Those not wanting salt would throw the bag away or pour it down a male or female shirt or blouse. This was real life and excitement.
Sometimes this small blue bag of salt would, however, also be damp. To open a bag of crisps in those years was to live on the threshold of risky times. Liminality OK !
Of course there is and was a moral to this atmospheric condition. Those understanding the sensuous adventure will no doubt embrace heartily this "bildung" but those of the generations that have not really lived will misconstrue real life as an appropriate act of sickly SATS and PRATS - "all made out of ticky-tacky and they all look just the same".

Apparently bloggers have been visiting pschologists and even psyco-therapists rather much over the last few years. The following story has come to my notice.
Blogger goes to therapist and complains that nobody takes his blog seriously and few even bother to chat or take notice at all.
Reply back from Therapist ( to the reception secretary) : " Next please".

Last night I made small talk with a judge. I asked him about the Man Utd versus Chelski match seeking his opinions on this event today.
He replied : " Oh yes, I remember well Ken Barrington, an excellent stopper and a joy to watch. Even a few of those foreigners were with a spark of excitement. Do you recall Wes Hall? He used to take five minutes to deliver one ball after running from the boundry line. Then there was those wonderful Yorkshire players, Truman and Boycott. I told the prime minister at the time that this was an example for the working class and trades unions to work well with the solid and slow moving gents of the establishment. They did not listen and it was unfortunate that our solid and slow Boycott lost faith in the establishment and we all know where that led us. But, yes, i enjoy sport it keeps me in touch with everyday life. By the way is it one of those one day matches?"

Rumour is about that lifestyle columns are warming up to THE BURROW. It all began when the resident judge Anticant complained that budgets were cut so there would be no new decorational improvements. The questions then were asked. Why? Where has all the money gone?
Then a "News of the World" investigator caught wind of the cash transactions and the future plans of THE BURROW. We can, it is rumoured, look forward to a new player in the Burrow team. The present team of Anticant, Ben and the Beadle has been felt to be too much like that infamous "Old Lady" living aloof on Threadneedle Street in contempt of the real public. A new public face was needed it was said. Typically a contract was signed in secret and a new body was signed up to this venerable institution.
Soon we can look forward to a certain "Fan Like Fanny The Friday Night Club Queen" showing the BURROW in a new light and as an addition to the conservative ways of the past. Questions are being asked as the intrique increases. Some are fearing that the nice and polite BURROW will become yet another victim of Rupert the bear.

The recent successes of Finnish websites ( and Estonian sites, even governmental) after the Eurovision Song Contest has turned back on itself. The Finnish State run YLE site has been simply overloaded. This far we learn that Eastern Europe has been involved in sending so many posts to the site and in the end blocking it. Prime Minister, Matti Vanhanen, is due to say in public that he personally loved the wonderful songs from the Warsaw Pact.
After talks with George W Bush the EU and NATO representatives are agreeing to blame Putin for this cyber-war. But, as one Russian source said : " Putin is not that good with computer technology you know although he has been known to enjoy My Space."
Rumours circulate that comment is free sites are being controlled in preemptive fashion so that's all right then.
One does fear for the increasing popularity of THE BURROW though......
BREAKING WIND-E-NEWS : Latest news is that the NATO operations that are going on now had included in their programme a new look at cyber-wars. This information comes from the Ukraine ( who were, it was said, very happy with their second place in the Eurovision contest with their song Lusha Go Home). Questions are being asked now about NATO involvement. Cyber-wars should, it is said, be included under the NATO portfolio for global oppression.
Latest Update : In the last half hour news has been coming in. A question raised by the Latin American officials concerns the content of these messages that block websites involved in NATO operations. Was it true that these messages were from World Bank boss Wolfitwitch and related to the scandels of past and present World Bank officials?

As far as I can make out the latest US inspired Blairite campaign involves targeting the unborn babies in the name of the grand social order. This seems to me like the kind of anti-social engineering of Blair and Bush and others of that kind. It is now clear that those connections made between Bush and Blair and Hitler were not so dumb.
First why "target". What a damned nasty term. Targets are to aim at before firing and shooting. Targets are to be blown away. This is akin to the UK language games of people being told to "KILL SPEED". The whole langauge game of the UK is foul. It is built upon aggression and ideological agression at that. It worries me.
Will the UK target the likes of a Beethoven?
Who is to blamed and shamed next we ask? If the unborn are already targets then god help the rest.
I wish I could cancel my UK trip this summer but I would find that rather difficult due to other people and promises of the human kind.
But maybe i misread the signs of the UK condition today.
There have been a few deep and serious comments from bloggers ( Yellow Duck and Anticant and Ms Melancholy to name a few from recent blogs) all concerning the human touch and blogs. Some may ask for an ethics of the blogosphere. Others might, as I do, see this as a moral culture struggling to be human from a distance. I have taken seriously the recent social theorists, like Zygmunt Bauman for example, who also struggle with this possibility of a postmodern arena finding a moral culture that is NOT "face-to-face".
Bauman would ask us to keep struggling ( even when there is no certainties of outcome and no possible perfection) to build bridges and to travel with morality. We have trains and boats and planes to help our feeble bodies travel across borders and we need the same kinds of "travelling aids" to move in social worlds that are increasingly electric and computerised and .... at-a-distance. The traditional morality was face-to-face and this does not work with a blogosphere.
In another way of saying ( my way of saying ) we travel from place to place and we avoid those "SPACES OF ADVENTURE" through various techniques. The blogs are often struggling in those "spaces" still.
The question also comes that : do we really want to make an adventure space into a safer PLACE and if so why?
For those already falling asleep or getting ready to yell BORING I can only make this promise. Tommorrow I will blog differently.

The normally stay-at-home Zola must travel to the UK this summer for about 10 days. There was a time when this would be banal but today ....? I find myself asking strange questions like what should i take with me. What should I avoid. What planet am I to visit? Any kindly worldly advice will be appreciated. By all accounts things have changed rather much since my last visit and especially since my last living there - over 30 years ago.
Do I still use the word "Thank You"? If I am lost, soon to be lost or drunk and totally lost do I still ask a policeman for help? Do convents still have high walls demanding climbing expertise? Do I still avoid using the word cheers when taking a drink with others?

Due to dwindling sales the all too often absentee landlord of this site has sexed it up a bit with a new regular feature : "Perversity Challenge".
All very simple really. You just need to identify the rogues or answer the questions.
Here is yer starter ( first prize a midnight meeting with lavenderBlue on Hampstead Heath) and good luck.
Identify the two people involved in the conversation :-
" Your connection with any newspaper would be a disgrace and a degradation. I would rather sell gin to poor people and poison them that way. "

Your Zola has never been a big fan of the ruthless business class or the ideology that comes with these nasty brutish and short-termed beings with ever lengthening noses. If anybody doubts this then let me throw more strawberries to elephants thus :-
" Suppose that, as a result of using up all of the world's resources, human life did come to the end. So what? "
( from Australia and the "Business and Society Review )
On a serious Saturday ( trying to escape the Eurovision Song Contest fever that is sweeping Finland and spreading banality everywhere like shit hitting a fan) I am slowly coming to a soft conclusion that a response to the Australian comment is one necessary action for any future.

Now we hear that the Right Honourable Bliar has been spinning again.
Bobby Moore ( a damned good half-back and more) is now a symbol of UK under Bliarism. Blair praises a football guy to praise himself - to praise Blair, himself.
This Toni Bliar tribute is really an insult to Bobby Moore.

For sometime now I have felt a strong sense of cynicism eating at my life-blood. I began to live in a kind of fear. Was indifference to be the next step? Indifference the last refuge of the repressed and the seduced. Jesus wept !
Climbing out, up and away from this crevasse of ice remains, I realise now, a constant struggle. The ideal to climb out is one essential ingredient for survival. In a sense this, it seemed to me, was a labour of love. OK for that. Vital it may be for May-Being. But vitality is not easy.

Unless you read only the newspapers from Blatcherite countries like the UK you will find a fairly solid and collective European response to the hopeful Royal in the coming French Presidential elections. Last night, during a long TV debate with the typical male and right wing bigot (that will follow Bush and Blair but with more image value), she showed her mettle and she showed her resolve. She was not fooled, as many women have been in the past, with the sick condescending tricks of those strong male leaders of the Right Wing. She was sight for sore eyes and a breath of fresh air. Very many in Europe this morning realised that and many of the 20 million TV viewers on France will also think again before finding a French woman as a no-hope for president.
For those living in the UK it is suggested that a read of a few other newspapers are in order to appreciate the truly Royal performance last night. She stood up and would not be moved when it came to injustice and continued ( if covert) oppression of everyday folk.
If this Royal woman makes president this man here will jump for joy. She has enthused a very tired body and brain.
Viva la Royal performance.

I seems that some folk do not understand a "Labour Day". This would seem to be one more arena of global thinking! In my last post I did assume far too much for those that only give and take with measured-value. But all is not lost. Gender-on-heat.
Labour Day was one day in the year when men celebrated the child-bearing females as being equal and valuable. It was also a day when men demanded better working conditions and better wages. It was like "Onward Christian Solidarity, Marching as to War, with the Cross of a Centre-Left Government, spinning on before ....."
It was a day that the pubs found glorious and it was yet another day when humanity was split from arse to tit. One day, maybe, it will all come out in the wash that men do.
May 1st was also an International Day for folk and with folk. It was that way. Believe me it was. Once. There was once few times when suffering was .....................
Now who will give me a Romantic definition of that which we pretend to talk about?
Old Wolfyprick and his business stuff remains bankable.
If you want a Wolfyprick sperm you can get it from the net.
Good business may not be ethical
Ethical business may not be moral
Bad sperm may not be regulated .... (thank God Banks)
It is enough to forget that International Labour Day is almost beginning.
Anybody have a Toni Blair brain for sale?
Expensive we know ( never been used volkswagons have always been popular)
But just think of the possibilities.
I blame the Sherpas on Everest meself.

" He had been registered under the names of Jean Marie Mathieu Valot, but he was never called anything but Mademoiselle. He was the idiot of the district, but not one of those wretched ragged idiots who live on public charity."
Did Mr Hemingway really beat the shit of out this guy?
Guy de Maupassant remains standing up in the boxing ring.
Anyway what else is one to do when stuck in the bed with thoughts?
What are we all to do as idiots and ragged rascals in public?
Can I win the lottery this week?
If I can I promise to pay more taxes.
Trust me.

But first I am off to shoot an heffalump and fuck a woozzle.
More pancakes please.
Love those pancakes.
Concerning the cutting off penis syndrome it has been rightly said that many males also suffered from this act of morality. They are also in a London hospital. Penis transplants are also up by 269 points on the Footsee index. The post before should not have made a male and female divide.
Male cuts off penis in eating establishment. After having his car confiscated this male member of society decided to get real. He cut his penis away. He wanted, it is reported, to show himself as a real man without car. Afterwards, as he wept, a BUN reporter heard him say " It was never really mine anyway". When asked why he did this act in public he replied that it "was to educate" and "to make a stand".
At the same time the hospitals are full of patients suffering from trauma. It seems that many of the females, in that big London restaurant, were shocked. A Doctor there said that there were two categories of trauma. The first and the largest in number was a kind of penis envy that was so badly taken away through such an awful act. Lost now in a lost world was how one therapist described it. The second was a kind of self-hatred because many had wanted to do this act themselves but had never quite found the wherewithall to actually do it. So far penis meat has not hit the headlines but it may not take too long before it hits the menu. ( not sure what to mix it with however but .... we wait...)
Anyway London is full to the brim with trauma cases right now. Tourist agents advise the routes to Manchester where the penis syndrome has yet to be discovered and where the football is better. But then it all depends on your character and your taste.
I did try to send this male penis cutter to all the Awks but I was too slow it seems. He only got to Yellow Duck and then blew a big wobbler.
This is not to blame Yellow Duck, of course, but a question has been raised, in the higher ponds, as to the side-effects of the "Pond".
What are we to do?
What can be done?
Who gives a fuck?

Some celebrate today, April 23rd, as a "Saint George" day. Or should I say that a few people do this. But in the UK that old gas-bag, liar and career politician, Jack Straw, even finds time to write about this in newspapers and to brown-nose his future Brown hole in power. ( That is not courage Jack boy that is simply a repeat performance of your student days where to run was to get ahead). But brown-nosed Jack did not lick the arse of our other George in Europe. Finland also celebrates George day today.
Yrjö. Yes YRJÖ is the same as George in Finnish language. Today is Yrjö day. What connection is there between this and Jack Straw bending down on his knees yelling George? Let me tell you.
The Yrjö call is a famous call down the white telephone. This Yrjö call is often called at least three times. George, George, George, it goes, down that white telephone.
For the Finnish ear it is Yrjö as ERR-REE-YAAAAAAA.
Pissed again Mr Jack?
May I call you down the white telephone sir?
Psycohologistists and manageniment-trainers are in the same pre-packed tin. Somebody said that once but I cannot remember that far back. Process, process, process has been a kind of "in" word ( never a reasonable concept) and that "in-word" has really found an entry into funding systems.
Why do processed things get funding?
A question that will not get funding!
I think it was the 1960s when processed peas became normal.
By the 1970s processed peas were the rage.
By 2007 processed peas were the "will-be-must-be-world" of Natural Morality.
I was going to say something more but I have already forgot it all.
History confuses me.
" Somebody help me there, somebody help me there ..... tell me where I went wrong....

The narccissistic nature of blogging often twists itself arse about face. Confessions are coming everywhere as if they were out of fashion.
So here are three confessions from a Zola seeking salvation :-
- ought not to have placed an official flag at half mast on the death of John Lennon.
- ought not to have been involved in both a groom and a best man being placed in jail the night before the wedding. This especially as I was that bestman.
- ought not to have placed bra and panties on the flag pole of a highly rated hotel and ought not to have laughed when the newspapers printed a picture of this deed.
For these deeds the Sunday Zola confesses.
But mesuspecks there are others in this lark of blogopeers that need to confess too and need to feel the spiritual glow at finally coming clean.
So by the power vested in me I will hear your confessions on each and every Sunday.
Warning : Best book early to stop Anticant and Lavenderblue filling the net to overfill and crashing the whole damned thing.

Madam Queen : Happy Birthday to you at 81 years of age. The world owes you.
Note : It has come to my notice that your world ( built upon the theme of Common Wealth ) has been re-structured in such a way that your well deserved pension has been placed at risk. This, we all feel, is unjust. We propose a return to the Common Wealth where pensions are honoured. This especially so since we know that your heating bills for the coming winter will be massive. What can be done?

Why does anyone put up with all the muses of the Awks? Why indeed. Those silly old wits like Anticant, Boldscot and Trousers are really there to tempt us into reflection. It is damned inconvenient but necessary. lavenderblue is not an old fart like those others mentioned above but she is equally a temptress always in disguise. That fluffy and all so cuddlesome Yellow Duck is equally a thorn in the flesh of certainties of the self. Why does anybody put up with all this traditional table talk on the blog?
Are the peasants revolting yet again? Maybe.
Are the (anti)intellectuals getting a grip again? Maybe.
Were the open(ed) knickers of the Guardian of Truth displaying a destiny that was never called for? Perhaps.
But I like it.
It is not that simple but I like it.
What the fuck more do you expect for a Friday!
It used to be pay day but today it is a new debt day.

Can you imagine philosophy ( with a small "p") activated in schools? I have been trying to find out the European way. Norway is one country that enjoys philosophy in schools and for those young folk that are about 8 years old or more.
Of course non-Western societies may work a philosophy too but in Europe there seems to be few Nation States that even contemplate allowing philosophy for kids or teenagers or adult education centres. Is Norway the only one?
One argument I found myself involved with was from a UK "expert". He insisted that philosophy was only for those that had really lived and experienced the world. This was an adult thing, he said. Philosophy is not for kids!
Thank you UK.
Strange though that as a kid in the UK my philosophical adventures of the mind were so strong even as I asked simple questions like who am I? What is up there in the sky? Do I belong to this sky? I certainly did not belong to the UK ways. I asked too many questions. To be child-like was to admit philosophy in some way. A good way.
What the fuck happened to adventure education? Why was philosophy denied to the kids that are alright anyway? Why? What happened I ask.
Or am I merely an Angry Old Man?
One son of Zola has signed a new recording contract. His band enjoyed the party which was paid for by the record company. Could not get contact this morning. he must be very busy writing new songs.
If the warm weather keeps on like this in Lapland we will see the ice melt in one of our famous lakes ( Kilpisjarvi) before June. Normally we wait until the first week of July for that event.
The clean white snows of the north are melting to show the rubbish once hidden. Oh if only there was a good scrap merchant around so I could relive my childhood going around collecting scrap and rags and papers and to sell them to nasty Dickens type characters. Is that nostalgia?
Comment recently : " Can you justify lecturing again when the young lecturers need the work?". My reply would not gain me credits.........

As the new right of centre-right government spins its way ahead, after the elections and after the new backstage performances of career politicians, one surprise came that raised many an eyebrow.
The new Foreign Minister would be a certain infamous Ilkka Kanerva who is famous mainly for being over 30 years in politics ( achieving very little) and for his conquests of certain female beings ( his text messages have often hit the headlines). He is thought to have a very diplomatic bedside manner as evidenced by his past success rates. He is, of course, conservative through and through.
But at the same time, as this news broke, Finns were told that the infamous Pamela Anderson ( yes the big boobs-job celebrity ) would be visiting Finland soon.
Jesus wept does the new Foreign office work that quickly?

Corvus Corine and Pica Pica agree to differ and carry on in peace.
That disgusting songbird, the hooded crow, has finally made peace with the magpie. Every year these two families yell and flap about as if war is good. They make their nests and home ground in the trees. About 50 metres apart this year. But they behave in a terrible fashion as if they were trying to be a copy of Yellow Duck and Szwagier on a good day. Anybody who thinks that that silly old twit Anticant is always yapping at Zola should try the magpie and hooded crow. Anticant is mild in comparision. Still a silly old twit but a mild silly old twit.
It all makes work for the working man to do.....
But wait for it as the young will hatch. Then our cat will get it. But until then we are blessed with a peaceful period.

" My candle burns at both ends ;
It will not last the night ;
But ah, my foes, and oh my friends -
It gives a lovely light ! "
No idea where I got this from. It was written down on a piece of paper in the 1980s sometime and connected to mountains. As I read again that paper it was clear that it was stained. Had I pissed on it? Such is life I guess. Never take books to the mountains.
Holy shit thou tempts those seeds of destruction methinks. As the new right of centre right misgovernment in Finland argues about careers and status Finland claims today as the National Accident Day. Whatever next. Fuck me I am stunned. Fell over a minute ago and that woke me up. The ice is still around. Is it possible for a government like this to avoid an accident just waiting to happen? But mercy is the cry.
Thou that takest away the sins of the world have mercy......
Damn it we all make mistakes.

Facts are facts, cannot change that, so long as you believe me. Let me tell you a story.
During a 6 week training course that would help lead to Royal Marine status I met the only black guy. His name was Adom. He was fantastic in athletic ability but he had been sent to the UK for "training" as he was was considerd a deviant in his native Africa. His parents were very respectable just like the Royal Marines.
One day in the gym when we were all trying to jump over two wooden horses placed long ways ( which is one hell of a jump ) our Adom showed beauty and truth. He floated over those two wooden horses as others smacked themselves all over the place. Adom did it and he did it in style.
His reward?
That same day, at evening time, Adom was given duties. To march around the parade ground ( see J.Swift and Gulliver to get the mathematics of this long haul) and to march around the parade ground with a rifle held ABOVE his head. Royal Marines are beautiful people that we can trust (sic) Very sick! Two hours of very sick rewards from the UK. His parents approved of this.
When Adom came back to the group he was totally fucked.
At that time i was not strong enough to complain or revolt. But at that time i did learn a thing or two.
They tried to break him UK style, Royal Marine style.
But Adom was a natural artist.
He pissed people off but he never did things for that reason.
he was as he was.
He was good.
Why did the Royal Marines dislike him?

The "Corp" Royal Marines. Tradition. Land and sea together. Half the world from the UK and the other half from the USA. ( Check the badges). Divide and rule?
Sori mate.
Shit. Back inside and with the spuds I guess.
Or ..... giving me hat to a stripper....
Or fading away with Kipling .... just fading away.
Royal Marines, Royal Marines
The best best in all the universe
The best you have ever seen.
" In the depths of deepest Africa where the Yanks have never been
Lies a body of a Zulu warrior fucked to death by a Royal Marine,
Royal Marines, Royal Marines
We are the best in all the universe
We are the worst you have ever seen.
In the depths of white antartica where the yanks have never been
Lies a body of a polar bear
Fucked to death by a Royal Marine.
Royal Marines, Royal Marines
We are the best in all the universe we are the the best you have ever seen.
Collect your GREEN hat by clicking in.
But there are no polar bears in Antartica.
What you need is training.
Thanks from a polite blogger. Bloggers are nice.
Thank you very much thank you very very very much.
Thank you to Finnish politicians for being with us poor plebes. You all deserve your second pay increase in one year. Bloggers are happy at this and will even blog for free to help the balanced economy.
Thank you to all those Finnish CEO's who achieved 30 and 40 % increases in income. It was quite correct for so many Finns to be made unemployed. Those unemployed should have taken out shares many years ago. Shame on them. let them now learn a lesson.
Thank you Tony Halme ( mentioned before here on my blog) for mistreating women and drugs and guns and all that. Thanks for your honest work in government as a nationalist representative. You deserved your pension which is more in a week than an unemployed will get in a month or more. Let the unemployed learn a lesson from your wisdom.
Is it not nice to be polite and is it not wonderfully correct.
Please vote Zola as the most polite blogger on the www messwork.

I would kill for a nice chocolate egg.
I love you all.
I need a chocolate sweetie to die for.
Have targets will manage.
Aimless
Armless
Alienated
As I hop down the pathways like a rabbit, in heat of the Springtime madness,
Laughing at my absurdity.
Better that than believing in all that other crap I say.
Back to the hops.
Why oh why do people self-destruct?
Ok politicians get better wage increases than us voters. Ok we pay big business to promote free trade ideology. Ok we have holidays.
Cross my heart and hope to die I cannot believe in Easter.
BTW : We hear that Bliar and Brown from the UK tresspassers.inc are going to make another sacrifice in Scotland. They do it to teach the others a lesson.?

Age Defying Intensive Care AND Vitamin + and all in the "Lumene" package.
Just unpacked one of my old travelling bags. In it I found tissues from aeroplane giveaways mixed with a couple of shampoo samples. Wow! This "Lumene" pack of tissues is just what I need because I am worth it. Opened up the sachet and the damned tissue was dry and like a apricot after a summer of sun backed snake skins has been at it.
Lumene and your radiant gene and vitamin + really must do better than this if you are to claim an "age defying" ingredient.
Maybe i write to complain at www.lumene.com
Why tease a poor Zola at Springtime?

Have books ever helped to change our own world(s)? Have internet text(ed) worlds changed things? Have words ever worked with deeds of the flesh? Has the word ever become a deed? Ah, that is interesting. Not boring anyway.
" Let The Dice Decide" and refuse God because God does not play dice with the world. But let us refuse God. God is dead !
" Let the dice decide".
The Luke Rhinehart novel of 1971 called "The Dice Man" remains scary to politicos and academicos all even today.
Throw the die and dice as you will me old Dion. Make a meme-noble-moment :
1. Read the book
2. Go fuck the bank manager or (s)his spouse or partner
3. Refuse to read the book and watch TV
4. Make a blogsite.
5. Go fuck as many of your neighbours as you can in 48 hours.
6. Go kayaking or canoeing at night-time and naked.

To stop crime change the damned laws. That is obvious.
Scared about credit card info getting nicked? Refuse credit cards!
If we kept it so damned simple from the beginning we might do better.
But many would ban such simple truths.
This is why a critical education is still a good thing.
Those "Domain Assumptions" that lurk before and beyond laws and orders are lethal in power and influence.
Make a stand and refuse credit cards and demand kippers on the national health service.
Just see what a big difference all that would make.
There must be many that waste their money visiting hairdressing shops. So maybe somebody out there can help me with a question that has bothered me for many years. OK I used to visit the hairdresser once when that was the only place to buy condoms without anybody else knowing. Nudge nudge wink wink you know what i mean. OK I admit it. But this is not my point.
Why do we never hear a hairdresser fart?
I am sure they cannot all be Queens !

Exiled peons all have one thing in common. They miss certain things.
I miss KIPPERS.
Smoked kippers for breakfast.
If a government wants to win an election they should provide, for all, smoked kippers each and every morning and all payed for by the National Health Services.
By doing just that and that alone huge changes could begin.
Benefit the world it would.
Few believe British political honesty or dignity. So when questions of military boys and girls playing with their toys in Iraq or Iran waters gets headlines nobody believes a damned word of it all. Such is the price to pay Mr Blatcher for bringing in a new dimension to the old cliche of lies, damned lies and statistics.
When the search for truth is needed more than ever today it is sick that only fools and sheep will believe the official statements. But that is the state we are in. But there is hope on the horizon. The English football team is being shown for fooling so many for so long that grassroots get pissed off. This means attention can be related to other urgent matters of national identity. This means that a "transfer of learning" might, just might happen.
Might take a while though....

To drink in the snug bar of Anticant is to fuse both pleasure and pain. The drinks are free ( as would be social for an aristocratic Fabian) and the toilet clean for all. Heaven help. The likes of a Zola finds clean toilets to be a de-luxus beginning to redemption. A learning curve? A saviour? A blessing? But as the drinks are free the party gets going the toilet is significant for anticant as he entertains. But few have experienced this WC where a polite and yet still natural happening must and will gush with a blush hidden away.
How does Anticant do this? He hangs Monet paintings on the walls. Pictures of Lilly no but nearly. Sexual images from Paris yes but not quite. Impressions. In the toilet of Anticant we find perspectives. Sometimes blurred and sometimes boldly painted as it all depends where one stands.
Which leaves us only one conclusion. The snug thrives because of the toilet. It is only this dynamic that takes the "serious" away from the "really serious".
Long live free beers and wine I say.
The most "damage" comes from those part-time boozers. Those that cannot hold their drink - those part-timers - those in the majority of the population. After a study of 40 years the Finnish researchers have finally found out what the drinking classes always knew. The main damage comes from those that pretend and play a game at the expert practice of boozing. The majority are the pretenders.
The majority - the great pretenders who cause most damage - are those that think a six pack is well over the daily limit. A six pack? Strawberries to an elephant really for an expert boozer who knows what it is all about. Anyway it is now time to blame and shame the majority ( those pretenders ) and never fear "they will they will". But at least now the drinking classes can be left alone in the public knowledge that they are not the main damagers of societal order.
Not sure if that research made studies on the 12-pack per day type.
Not sure if that research studied business elites that refuse 12-packs as being rather plebian and inappropriate.
But anyway the drinking classes are freed from blame and shame at last.

Air pollution right now in Finland is about as bad as it gets. Those with any kind of respiratory problem are well advised to stay indoors. Foreign travellers take note. This is indeed a health warning.
The main problem according to all official reports is the dust on the roads. Grit and various dirty bits are scattered on the roads during the winter to stop the ice getting to be like glass. When the sun comes out and the snow and ice melts we are left with a mass of dirty bits. These dirty bits get kicked up by the cars and wagons and get thrust into the air. best to wear a face mask in Finland today ( the day when the new parliament makes its first big meetings - is there a connection here? ).
But the cause? Well of course it is the dirty bits and the cars. But another reality of this "cause" of the problem is neverending budget cuts for all real safety things. The roads have not been cleaned as well as they would have been in past years. The cause of this problem is then attached to the cheap-jack market driven forces. Now where have I heard that before...... ?

The suicide season is upon us. Why people commit suicide in the Spring season more than the winter season I have no real idea. I can only think that it is because of idle promises and the inevitable let-downs. Too many political elections are held in the warming days of Spring. Too many hopes are hyped yet again. Too few spuds are involved and too few sustainable gardens. Too many over-spun-spuds are but bad apples. Too few leaves are green.
Too little warmth from the sun is really felt for the winter time-coming. Too much frost and cost left over from the summer-gone.
But "Everyday I see a new born baby cry, I touch a leaf and see the sky ....
We gotta get out of this place ..... the last thing we ever do .... HOPE.....
Suicide is not the last thing.
Summer IS coming
And
If I am lucky
So am I.
Flicking through Sunday newspapers in a typical Sunday morning haze I came across the same old comments again and again. They were all attached to the failure of reaching targets ; the lack of passion and commitment ; the absence of community spirit ; the criminal sleaze jobs of those that are overpaid and over influential and to cap it all the total disrespect for supporters.
What I thought was concerning the UK system of Turd Way politics was, in fact, a report on the English football team. I was left to conclude that there is little or no difference.
By the way. Monday morning was little different as this tragedy turned into farce.

In a 25 hour day and a flexible week we all need at least two jobs. But what jobs should we take to stay sane?
Easy to answer this one.
A teacher ( shit a lecturer, educator or whatever) should be a postman (sic).
What more do you expect from a weekend that has no finality????
A return to school is always strange. But what can one do or say when an intelligent young women comes out with a comment like this : " Is this not a paradox?".
Being all of the beastly "ists" ( sexist, ageist and all) I could only cross my legs and think of those questions that were once made without low cut tops. But a response was needed.
" Life, it is, life as adventure..." That I said. Then adding : " a paradox does not exist"!
Then she came back at me saying that I was not a moral person. I had not crossed my legs enough I guess. But she got my point anyway.

What does one do when a new world invites an old fart to lecture again?
How does one handle retirement when the organisations are so old and cold?
Is is possible to lecture anymore?
maybe it is. ( if it pays). ???????????????????????????
maybe it is ( for free).
As rock and roll, folk singer song-writers, pop and piss-artists all make claims to being older and wiser then why should ............. why should an old fart get on the stage?
What is going on?
Damn it I have just fallen off the stage, again. Anybody there wants to fall too?
What is to be done? The "just a lark" gets thrust onto the cactus again.
Thank God for my Jesuit stoicism past before I blogged and .............
Fuck me I might enjoy it.
The postmodern was far too late to make a real difference.
Ello ello
What is your game then?

As predicted so well by Zola a few days ago the conservatives and the right-wing bigots of Finland were the main winners. Or so say the media.
Actually the main party to win the most vote was the silent majority who polled 10% more votes than the biggest party. But you read this all before it happened and you read it on this site ( just as the Serena Williams victory was predicted).
What more can i say on this : Zola will go into the on-line betting business at this rate.

After reading the Sun - reading? ok googling - and as the bums and tits and all gets boring for the day I do still turn to the Guardian a bit. Just a bit. Connections are strange and we live lives that are accidents i guess.
However today Susan Sontag is a piece of the Guardian concerning morality and the novel. This sparked me off.
last night i played music and danced with my bookshelves in romantic mode. Me missus thought i had gone crazy again after all these years but i knew better.
Would like a piece of Susan Sontag i would......

The Duck is excite-ab(abble)le - quack quacking everywhere - postmodern duckie?
So here we go to catch up :-
" People say it doesn't exist
cause no one would like to admit
That there is a city underground
Where people live everyday
Off the waste and decay
Off the discards of their fellow man ....
give Mr President my honest regards ...
Last night i had another restless sleep...
Last night I dreamed.... "

University life was strange. By the turd year things had to happen. So may I tell a little story. May I? Waves and marriages and all that tend to talk in terms of seven years but I can only say say that three years is enough to rock and roll.
A few posts ago our infamous Anticant paraded his family with long dresses and sitting down peacefully for the camera. Check his website.
Memories are brought back. Sometimes. Long dresses and "ladies" OK for me.
It was a few years back. Rob, a damned good student friend from the North-East, decided to get back home. This decision was made after a few parties and he had had a few. I said to him that we would go north. He agreed.
So pissed as farts we headed for the railway station.
No money but heads full of hope.
By the time we reached Birmingham New Street station we were less than academic but we asked one official for the train going north. The official pointed to the train now leaving. We jumped on.
No tickets and no money and no support from the university for this adventure.
OK, the story is long. But to say a little something here we go.
In one compartment of the train ( normally for six people) we found only two. Both women wearing long dresses down to the feet. Rob smelt a fish and said to me hide and quick.
The ticket collector was on the prowl.
We hid.
Under the long dresses of the ladies, that were also travelling, north with a smile.
You guessed it.
We did not get caught.
We travelled 8 hours that way.
Up north.
Long live long dresses I say.
How could I ever forget
A memorable experience as they say.
Travelling under long dresses.
But I guess they have banned such things today.
Ah Dunno.

Finland will know on Sunday night the outcomes. Election time is here again. Wow. For those interested there is a site, in English, to guide you through this mess. Just click on to the YLE ( which is the site of the Finnish State Broadcasting AUTHORITY ) and take a google with a giggle. If you enjoy sitting down waiting for the porridge to go cold then click in.
main points?
1) There is rather strong turn to the Right.
2) Greens are still around 10% but ......
3) The so called Left is ( at about 9%) still stunned by the past leader who has just snatched her promotion by taking on the Cosmetics Industry as a supporter and at a huge salary.
4) The Social Democrats ( tradition) have found that pragmatism no longer works and today it is all in the "feelings" but they have no DR Feelgood at the helm.
5) The Swedish groups ... they are half Swedish so ....... interesting but no big deal.
6) The Right wing ( two parties ) are laughing their way to their banks.
7) The Trades Unions have been trying to plead for social democratic ways to continue but they placed advertisements showing fat cats vis-a-vis the working class. The press and the right wing business politics had a field day.
8) The "ultra-bra" fascist lot are less than 2% so no need to yap here right now.
It was all brought home to me yesterday when one local voter stopped me in the street just to chat. An old friend. I was asked which party to vote for and I simply sank into the pits. This is the total lack of real trust today in Finnish politics. Finns do not trust the big messages but when they ask friends for advice the response is nothing more than a shake of the head.
But maybe : Less taxes. That sells.
But nobody asks less taxes for whom. Do they?

The not so old TV classic - "Last of the (Mid?)Summer Wine" - springs to mind when we all enjoy the frolics of Yorkshire folk at their best.
The interesting thing is to identify the TV characters with our Anticant and the beadle and ben in the background.
Maybe we need a TV programme based on the adventures of Anticant.

Have you ever fucked up when it was better to fuck down?
Have you ever gone against the orders of THE Doctor and/or the Ordering of Things?

There are one hundred ways to get pissed. But, with no fear of fickle debate, I can say that the BLACK SHEEP ALE is great. Just what the doctor did not order and all the better for that. BLACK SHEEP ALE from Yorkshire. As they say :-
" This is Black Sheep Ale. The culmination of five generations of brewing expertise ... Brewed at Paul Theacksten's Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, North Yorkshire, UK. And nowhere else"
I was going to try and say something substantial but ..................
still rock and roll to me
Carl Rogers remains for me significant. His work with social-psychology may be old fashioned today but his basic insights remain, for me, intact. If any alternative way is to be found for our 21st century Carl Rogers and the 1950s might just find favour. In my last post I displayed a poem by Malaguzzi and asked for this 100 ways of Humanitas to be one of the keys for policy. Today I turn to a social psychology that might just make a difference and help us all, just well enough, along this less travelled pathway. Carl Rogers is well worth returning with. I say this in two ways :-
a) His valid attempt to link the social with the individual through creativity and the basic needs of both society and the person may be another reasonable starting point for policy and decision-making. Society and the personal self are intertwined but there remains a kind of basic set of needs if all are to flourish. This approach avoids any one dimensional psychology or sociology and a creative possibility is encouraged thereby. In a word the insipid "me, me, ,me" self is balanced out by a social-self. That I believe is another starting point for an alternative dynamic. This may be a rather old fashioned approach but it remains, for me, an essential one.
b) Carl Rogers also talked of those basic aspects of the good life and well being. There is, he said, a sure connection between basic ways of food, shelter and clothes and all that with, at the same time, a sense of community and folk. These two aspects of life are essential even in a postmodern world. Then as a third connection there is that sense of a personal activeness where the "self" is "actualised" and vitally alive. This kind of three dimensional existence may be difficult ( hopefully impossible) to standardise or measure but it remains one cornerstone for life itself as well lived.
The point here is to come clean. To say what informs judgement and to reply to those that ask for alternatives to be more than mere critique. It is all to easy to blast out critical stuff without a basic foundation ( oopps a bad word there?) so I hope that this is a second grounding for alternatives and the future.
To ask new questions and to be critical is great stuff but foundations remain even if only in the head before the pen. Hope this links ok with that poem of 100 ways. I also hope this post is seen as a valid response to those that, quite rightly, ask for a few basic groundings that inform critical texts.
Shit - after reading my stuff above a stiff drink is needed. Must do better and really get to more basic things. Yellow Duck has more sex on his site now. Visit. Eastern stuff is in vogue it seems. Shut up Zola you have already fucked up the day.

A POEM BY LORIS MALAGUZZI
The child is made of one hundred.
The child has a hundred languages
a hundred hands
a hundred thoughts
a hundred ways of thinking
of playing, of speaking.
A hundred, always a hundred
ways of listening
of marveling
of loving
a hundred joys for singing
and understanding
a hundred worlds to discover
a hundred worlds to invent
a hundred worlds to dream.
The child has a hundred languages
(and a hundred hundred hundred more)
but they steal ninety-nine
the school and the culture
separate the head from the body.
They tell the child to think
without hands
to do without head
to listen and not speak
to understand without joy
to love and marvel
only at Easter and Christmas.
They tell the child
to discover the world already there
and of the hundred
they steal ninety-nine.
They tell the child that
work and play
reality and fantasy
science and imagination
sky and earth
reason and dream
are things
that do not belong together.
And thus they tell the child
that the hundred is not there.
The child says:
No way. The hundred is there!
- Loris Malaguzzi
Malaguzzi ( 1921-1994 ) was used recently by an wonderful co-writer, professor Matti Telemäki, as a beginning piece in our small book written just before he died. He wanted this poem to be looked at more and acted upon by more inside of educational circles.
Of course there are hundreds of educational theories and approaches too. So there should !!!! Shame that so many today wish to standardise and target and Americanise or UKise. yUK.

Newspapers are full of favourite things. Let me give them five of me own :-
1) Enjoying the "new age" of blogs where the word and the image and the stage gives hope for a new Proscenium Stage of communication with folk. Fuck the provider and the customer relation. Two cheers for the bloggers.
2) Enjoying the Phoenix-status of the word through blogs. So much better and often deeper than the mere TV screen ear and eye soap.
3) Enjoying the UK and the USA slowly finding feet in the mud of guilt.
4) Enjoying the laughs as politicians make websites and blogs. Spider laughs they are, they are, as bloggers fly.
5) Enjoying reading again the " Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner".
I was born an A Hairy Arse in early February.
The routine worlds of everyday life situations are, all too often, an alienation of the spirit and the vital human being in the social and natural world. Standardisation, as many have said before, is but a kind of USA bred hamburger for sale and the same the whole world over. Yuk. Give me a greasy spoon anyday. But for city fast-time people the "outdoors" maybe one time and place where a sense of strangeness and a sense of the ecstatic becomes alive. The "outdoor adventure" is life really coming alive ! Of course rural folk laugh at this.
But tennis and golf just do not hack this ex-static nature of an outdoor adventure. This tennis and golf are for creepy crawlies and business capital venturers. Give me the real adventure anyday.
Give me too the escape from that 25 hour per day mis-economy and the escape to the ex-static lapland shifting of the seasons ( these last few days have brought our first warming sun as a gift, blue-red,yellow and purple sky an all) where electric lights do not make a day, a month, a year one dimensional.
But there is more to it. The conformist and one-dimensional 25 hour business lifestyle work to avoid "strangeness" and real change or difference. It is no wonder that I just fail to support UK politics and much of EU politics. Best stop now before I rant and rave on-line. Best do this in me back yard methinks.

One ending of a wonderful book from Canada and the northern lot was :-
" ... we danced together like that while the night came on, singing a quiet song for the baby, for all babies." ( Halfway Man by Wayland Drew, 1989, page 219 ).
OK the outdoor lot are all escapists, like me. But maybe, just maybe, there is more to it.
Thanks to the one lone ranger for this incentive to post the impossible.
Eclectic Eccentrics? This far we see nothing of the sort. All we see is a ruthless aid to both conformism and servitude vis-a-vis the Blatcherite hegemony. As of today this new site reminds me of those nasty "Black Papers" from about 40 years ago where education was for the few, by the few and with the few that could afford it.
Therefore Zola applied for membership as a counter-weighter.
I will stick my finger up a woodpeckers hole until the woodpecker says god bless my soul.
Should be fun.
