GOVERNMENT GRANT GIVEN TO ANTICANT

A substantial funding incentive is given to the infamous Anticant.

The task is simple : To increase Anti-Social Mobility.

When asked a government official said that this Anticant has already proved his value in these arenas of "grey" and "gay" borders. It was said that the Anticant can be fitted for purpose.

What purpose? The Anticant is unfit for most purposes these days.

A more precise job description is awaited.

First needs first.
It is needed for Anticant to dig into that cant of "social mobility".

Then a deviant alternative might, at long last, prevail.

ZanuLabour now admits to having failed to improve the social mobility of the poor during its twelve years in office, but it's certainly improved its own.

[Pssst Missee Jowell and Noble Mandy, you wantee cheap knockdown price six-figure mortgage, no official papers required, no questions asked?...]

What does this mean?

"social mobility of the poor" sounds very much like riots to me.

Presumably you couldn't sell it in an actual sense.

I expect that, like Minnie, you lost it at the Astor long ago.

There are/were Astors and Astors. I read a book recently about the original New York ones, most of whom appear to have been amongst the ghastliest people who ever lived.

They knew a thing or two about social mobility: they had become Somebodies because they happened to own the land most of Manhattan was built on and were the biggest slum landlords ever.

When one of them was asked whether he didn't feel a pang of conscience for evicting poor tenants unable to pay their rents he replied: "No, because we are not taking anything from them. We are merely recovering what is ours."

I, however, was privileged to know a member of the English branch who used much of his share of the family fortunes to support good causes and liberal ideas. There is good and bad in all families and races.

What were you doing with Minnie at the Astor anyway?
