CONVERSATIONS WITH A JUDGE

Last night I made small talk with a judge. I asked him about the Man Utd versus Chelski match seeking his opinions on this event today.
He replied : " Oh yes, I remember well Ken Barrington, an excellent stopper and a joy to watch. Even a few of those foreigners were with a spark of excitement. Do you recall Wes Hall? He used to take five minutes to deliver one ball after running from the boundry line. Then there was those wonderful Yorkshire players, Truman and Boycott. I told the prime minister at the time that this was an example for the working class and trades unions to work well with the solid and slow moving gents of the establishment. They did not listen and it was unfortunate that our solid and slow Boycott lost faith in the establishment and we all know where that led us. But, yes, i enjoy sport it keeps me in touch with everyday life. By the way is it one of those one day matches?"

Who would have thought it, eh - a judge who didn't know what he was on about....you'll be saying there's a judge who doesn't know what a website is, next..

Judges are always in touch with the sordid realities of life. They see more of such things during a single week on the Bench than most of you lot see in a lifetime.

Who is Susan George?

Prefer the bed or sofa I do.
The bench is just too hard and thin and it wobbles on weak legs.

According to Reuters, an English judge trying a case against three Islamist radicals accused of inciting terrorism via the internet said this week that he didn't really understand what a web site was. He asked an expert witness to "keep it simple" and "start from basics", as he [the judge] "hadn't quite grasped the concepts".

Violent Islamist material posted on the Internet, including beheadings of Western hostages, is central to the case.

No doubt they will receive a fair trial - with ample scope for endless appeals.

A few years back during a case of popular interest ( concerning sex)the judge gave permission for names to be stated. The first name coming out was, in fact, the wife of that judge. But this was not enough for him to step down although he was, by all reports, quite shocked.
many other names came out but two of those were :-
a)a daughter of the judge himself. and, you guessed it
b) another daughter of that judge.

The court was amused.
The man responsible showed few signs of guilt.
never did check the final result of that trial.

Never mind the names, did they publish the phone numbers?

Talking about phones that Judge telephoned me last night and said he enjoyed this new sport. Chelski was his preferred club as they play in the correct colours.
But he did end up by saying that he was not, even after the game, sure about the scoring system. He said "I did not quite understand it I'm afraid. What is a yellow card worth?"

I replied "less than a red one".
There the conversation ended.
