IS IT NOT STRANGE?
Is it not strange when so many "really-lefty-types" were complaining, with a rather academic bent too, about the New Labour education education education thing?
Today the typical rightist media says the same.
I wonder just how many other examples we might find of the old-fashioned Left being proved correct by the established concerns of today?
Can you think of any?

This Left vs. Right stuff is so old-fashioned it isn't even premodern, let alone postmodern.
The meaningful divide in politics today is between "Them" (the filthy rich powerful lying scumbags who are wrecking everything) and "Us" (the virtuous penniless trampled upon populace scrabbling to survive among the ruins).
What "They" call themselves is neither here nor there. Regardless of the label, they stink.
Oh dear our Macchi is really on a bender here.
But so right in so many ways.
However the "left" remains as alternative attached to participatory democracy and a kind of humanistic bent. ( and a bit more ...)
anyway when I can get my head into social anarchy I will do so. Been trying for a few years this far. Still feeling fuzzy and blurred.
Oh, yes, the "left" loves participatory democracy except for those who presume to disagree with them.
"The people who cry 'Power for the People' are the people who want power for the people who cry 'Power for the People'.
It's all smoke and mirrors, my dear Zola.
No no no my world weary cynic.
You are now talking about "them".
Left-Right labels are meaningless. The issue is do you believe - as I, and I hope you, do - that the State exists to serve the citizenry and create conditions for us to live freer, fuller lives or do you believe - as "they" do - that other people are incapable of behaving responsibly without constant nannyish nagging and pettifogging regulation by THEM.
Free spirits, by the way, don't include single malts or vodka. There is a charge for those.
As you imply.
There are no such things as "Free Spirits".
There is a hefty charge for "things" that seem to be "free".
Oh yes : the "Left" criticise Capitalism.
Shit I almost forgot that.
The "Left" are much better at criticising than at doing.
Please point to one solid achievement of the "Left" other than mental masturbation during the last quarter-century.
Anti is an old Liberal.
He would not deign to comment on such posty-modern type of thought.
I am not an Old Liberal.
Post Modern?
What is that?
I am old, and I am a liberal (= democrat). According to some, I am a pseudo-liberal bigot.
So be it.
One definition of postmodernism I came across recently is that it is "the creed of the morally insane".
Comments on the back of a postage stamp, please.
Maybe the Chartist Movement might serve as but one good example of lefty progress.
